A type of tooth restoration, a crown may be recommended if a tooth has been damaged, has a large cavity in it or you’ve had root canal treatment. Sometimes, a crown can be offered as an aesthetic choice.
Crowns are a strong, stable choice for your smile. They’re ideal for those patients with cracked, chipped, snapped and broken teeth, capping over the imperfection while strengthening the tooth. At our Ripon dental practice, you can expect:
Your new crown will blend in seamlessly with your natural teeth, however the temporary one may be more noticeable.
The restoration may feel strange at first, but you’ll get used to it with time. If it’s causing any discomfort after the healing period, let our Ripon experts know and we can adjust if needed.
With regular check-ups and proper oral care, you can expect dental crowns to last a number of years. A check-up also allows our Ripon team to check for any signs it made need replacing.
No; a local anaesthetic or numbing agent may be applied to keep discomfort at a minimum. After treatment, over-the-counter pain relief can help manage any pain.
We can craft crowns from various materials, including gold, non-precious metal, zirconia or emax. Whatever you choose, your new crown will be strong and long-lasting.
For more than 30 years, we’ve served generations of the same families here in Boroughbridge and Ripon. Known for our friendly approach, experienced team and commitment to quality here’s what you can expect from your treatment.
Our Ripon dentists will first check you’re suitable for a crown. We do all we can to save the tooth and prevent extraction, but in some cases, it may be better to remove the tooth and place a dental implant instead.
If there is any decayed or damaged tissue, this will first need to be removed. Your tooth is then shaped, an impression taken, and a crown custom-made. You’ll need two appointments, and to wear a temporary crown while the permanent one is made.
Your new crown is easy to care for – our Ripon dentists will provide detailed instructions on doing just that. We can also advise on ways to help your crown last longer (for instance, changes to diet or lifestyle).
Simply follow each step to receive a tailored recommendation from your Ripon dentist.
“I have a fairly intense anxiety problem with going to the dentist. The staff here put me at ease. I had a tooth out a couple of days ago. They were great. Each time I go, I wonder what I was worried about. I’m far more relaxed about going now.
Professional, friendly people doing a wonderful job.”
