Being fearful of the dentist is a common occurrence, but it can be managed and controlled with the right approach, and it helps to know that our Boroughbridge practice is highly experienced in treating nervous patients.
Dental nerves can develop for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes, it’s down to poor oral care, and a fear of the condition of your teeth and the more in-depth treatments that might be required. Other times, it’s due to a negative previous experience. And, for some, it’s because they didn’t go as a child and simply aren’t used to the environment.
Our Boroughbridge team always put the patient – you – first. We want everyone to feel happy and comfortable at every stage of treatment. Not only do we have a warm and welcoming approach, but we’re sensitive to your needs, adapt your treatments if possible, and try to make every experience as pain-free as possible. Here’s what else we offer:
Absolutely. Whether it’s a case of experiencing a negative experience yourself or hearing about a friend’s, or you feel embarrassed about your smile, we’ll work with you to feel confident about your care.
It varies between patients. For some, it’s a fear of the unknown sights, sounds and smells, or not being able to see what’s happening during treatment. Others are anxious about any pain they may experience, worry about gagging during treatment, or are scared of needles. Whatever it is, we can help.
Some of our patients enjoy listening to music as a distraction, while others find that being talked to during the process helps take some of the fear and uncertainty away. There may also be times where you can have a friend or family member accompany you during treatment (talk to us about this). Finally, picking a quieter time of day for your appointment could help.
We’re well-known in Boroughbridge for our family-friendly team and our warm, welcoming chairside manner. We’ll always put your child first and try to make their time fun and exciting, so they can feel comfortable and confident about their smile.
Depending on the individual and the treatment, we may be able to offer methods such as local anaesthetic or numbing gel. We’ll talk to you about these before your treatment.
For more than 30 years, we’ve served generations of the same families here in Boroughbridge. Known for our friendly approach, experienced team and commitment to quality, here’s what you can expect from your treatment.
Having a consultation is an important first step on your treatment journey. Here, you’ll have the chance to ask questions and voice concerns, and your dentist can talk you through treatment and steps to manage your fear.
During your treatment, you may be allowed to have a friend or family member attend with you (talk to us about this). We can talk to you during the procedure to put any fears at rest and can offer numbing gel or local anaesthetic on selected procedures.
For some treatments, aftercare and follow-ups are required. Our Ripon team will explain things to avoid, ways to care for your smile and even book another appointment if needed.
Simply follow each step to receive a tailored recommendation from your dentist.
“I have a fairly intense anxiety problem with going to the dentists. The staff here put me at ease. I had a tooth out a couple of days ago. They were great. Each time I go, I wonder what I was worried about. I’m far more relaxed about going now.
Professional, friendly people doing a wonderful job.”
